November 30, 5-7pm, Information Commons at Loyola University’s Rogers Park campus.
Raindance was a seminal video and media collective which flourished in New York during the early video era, beginning in 1969. Its influence on alternative video, electronic arts, and media theory can’t be overestimated.
Dr. Elizabeth Coffman of Loyola University Chicago has organized what is believed to be the first reunion of Raindance members at an event on November 30 in Chicago. The event will include a discussion and a screening of some never before seen video clips.
Attendees will include: John Giancola, Davidson Gigliotti, Frank Gillette, Beryl Korot, Paul Ryan, Ira Schneider, and Michael Shamberg. It will also stream live at the event website.
For more information, read Davidson’s history of Raindance at the Radical Software website, where you can also view every issue of this historic time capsule of the early video era.
