  Aretha Franklin, Queen of Soul (1942-2018)

  Aretha Franklin, legendary Queen of Soul most famous for her recording of Otis Redding’s “Respect,” died today at age 76. In 1992, Franklin memorably opened the Democratic National Convention by singing the national anthem.
