  • Greetings From Lanesville

    Greetings From Lanesville

A composite of episodes of Lanesville TV, which was broadcast every Saturday night in Lanesville, New York to residents of a few small towns in the Catskills. The show had a lighthearted community focus, and featured segments on local events and people. Verbal description does not do it justice because it is a unique example of early “pure” video.

  • [Jane Byrne’s Easter at Cabrini raw #3]

[Jane Byrne’s Easter at Cabrini raw #3]

Raw video from inside the Chicago Police Department’s 18th District station after protesters at Jane Byrne’s Cabrini Green Easter celebration were arrested. The video features a group of lawyers speaking with police officers in order to get their facts straight. The last four minutes of video feature a short segment of the Jesse White Tumblers and a short segment from a street festival.

  • [Bernard Epton interview]

    [Bernard Epton interview]

Tom Weinberg interviews Bernard Epton, Republican Chicago mayoral candidate whose campaign against Harold Washington became controversial when his television commercials were perceived (correctly so) as racist attacks on Washington. He talks about his controversial slogans and commercials. After the Epton interview, at 11:43, there is raw footage from an interview with Milton Rakove for “Vito Marzullo.”

  • [Rostenkowski raw #114]

    [Rostenkowski raw #114]

Raw footage from the 1981 documentary “Rostenkowski,” a portrait of House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dan Rostenkowski, a powerful figure in Chicago (and national) politics. Rostenkowski acts as Speaker Pro Tempore of the House in this footage that appears to have been taped off-air. Good footage of the very formal House voting protocol. Rostenkowski acts as an efficient ringleader over the strict rubrics. Throughout the video, you can hear another individual feeding Rostenkowski what to say to the Representatives as they address the House.

  • [Rostenkowski raw #206]

    [Rostenkowski raw #206]

Raw footage from the 1981 documentary “Rostenkowski,” a portrait of House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dan Rostenkowski, a powerful figure in Chicago (and national) politics. This tape is a continuation of a rally for Rostenkowski in the field house in Chicago’s Pulaski Park (which sits in Rostenkowski’s district on Chicago’s northwest side). Rostenkowski introduces Richard M. Daley, who is running for Illinois State’s Attorney. In his introduction, Rostenkowski says that Daley was not supported by the Rostenkowski organization, but he won anyway. Rostenkowski now supports Daley. Daley gives a classically unpolished, somewhat sprawling speech in which he promises to crack down on crime and collect overdue property taxes if elected to the office of State’s Attorney.
