Murphy emcee’s the show in the character of Southern Belle Milly Mae Smithy for this live comedy / variety show. Performers/performances include: House-O-Matic, a teenage dance group; Lisa Kotin, who performs an instructional parody, “Spring Training: Miss America”; an unidentified, young teenage boy who sings a provocative R & B song, during which he strips off his shirt; comedian Emo Philips performs his typically eccentric stand-up act; the Texas Rubies, a female duo, perform a comedic rap and some country songs; and a performance by musician Jim Lauderdale. [The same footage is captured on another tape, but with a static camera.]

We see footage of the Kapugi brothers playing the tamburitza. There is a lot of talk about the happiness produced by Serbian music and about the ways it combines with American music. Followed by “Studs Terkel at the Steel Mill” featuring Studs Terkel interviewing steel worker and organizer Alice Peurala.

    A documentary about the day in 1958 when Art Kane, then an aspiring photographer and art director for Esquire magazine, arranged for a group photo (which was titled “A Great Day In Harlem”) of almost every prominent jazz musician in New York City to be taken in Harlem; among the many musicians are many jazz giants, including Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Charles Mingus, and Gene Krupa.
