An unidentified host takes the viewer through some of the highlights of the late fifties including: Chicago’s rise to becoming a major sea port, highlights of memorable Chicago sports moments, and various popular news stories of the decade.

    This tape is a raw interview shot for “Chicago Slices.” Valjean McLenighan interviews her mother and godmother, Wanda McLenighan and Lilian Bender. The two women, who have been friends since 1914, travel to their old neighborhood and talk about their childhood growing up in the Ukranian Village. Wanda and Lilian go on to visit the schools that they attended during their childhood and teenage years. Later in the video, the three women eat lunch at a Polish restaurant.

    Raw footage from the 1981 documentary “Rostenkowski,” a portrait of House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dan Rostenkowski, a powerful figure in Chicago (and national) politics. In this tape, Rostenkowski discusses air travel while on a United Airlines flight to Chicago. He tells a story about getting to Chicago’s Midway Airport from his home on Chicago’s Northwest side (he had to take two trains and a cab to get there). He goes onto discuss the benefits of the seniority system in congress. He also says that he would like to get rid of the TV cameras in the House of Representatives because House members tend to use the TV coverage as an opportunity to “get some free TV time.”

    Raw footage from the 1981 documentary “Rostenkowski,” a portrait of House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dan Rostenkowski, a powerful figure in Chicago (and national) politics. The crew is on the floor of the convention center at the 1980 Democratic National Convention. Rostenkowski is interviewed. He discusses the withdrawal of Senator Edward Kennedy from the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. He also discusses the challenges of running the convention. He says the most challenging aspect of running the convention is keeping the media satisfied. At just after eight minutes, someone in the convention hall apparently sets off some firecrackers, startling both Rostenkowski and the camera crew.
