  Raw footage from the 1981 documentary “Rostenkowski,” a portrait of House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dan Rostenkowski, a powerful figure in Chicago (and national) politics. On the floor of the convention center at the 1980 Democratic National Convention. Features footage of Rostenkowski working the phones on the speakers’ podium. Illinois delegates are also interviewed. They are asked what Rostenkowski’s role is at the convention. Few of the delegates seem to know. One suggests that Rostenkowski’s role is to find common ground among the various factions of the Democratic Party that are represented at the convention.

  This tape features a 1984 episode of “Time Out,” a weekly sports program that is hosted by a number of Chicago area journalists and sportscasters. This week’s commentators are John Schulian of the Chicago Sun-Times, Kenny McReynolds, a WBMX Sportscaster and Assistant Coach for DePaul University’s Men’s Basketball team, WIND reporter Fran Spielman, and former NBA star John Mengelt.

Terkel discusses a variety of topics including: the general lack of historical knowledge among many young Americans and his days in early Chicago television and radio. Terkel takes a number of questions from the audience as well. The audio is poor throughout the entire video.

In this video, Terkel takes the crew through his home and shows them various memorable pictures from his life and other transcripts for his newest book. Terkel also fixes drinks for his guests and they all watch the 2000 Presidential election unfold on television.
