    [Five Day Bicycle Race raw: Hal Weiner, street scene, Cayote interview, Libertarian]

    This video contains raw footage shot for “Five Day Bicycle Race,” a project comprised of live in-studio commentary and taped edited coverage of the 1976 Democratic National Convention in New York City. Produced by independent videomakers calling themselves The Image Union (including many members of TVTV and Videofreex), it aired on Manhattan Cable for three hours per night for five days during the convention. In this video, civil liberties Lawyer Hal Weiner discusses the implementation of radical loitering laws in New York City during the convention that were designed to deter prostitution. The videomakers also attend a meeting of a feminist group against the new laws. Towards the end of the tape, the videomakers speak with numerous people on the street about their thoughts on prostitution.

Interview with Laura Flanders (1961-), prominent feminist journalist who was born in Great Britain, about what the rest of the world thinks of America. “The British, being the falling empire that they are, revel in a sort of patronizing attitude towards the rest of the world and in particular, the United States.” She also talks about common American attitudes towards the British, claiming that a British accent is practically synonymous with intelligence in America, but says that “the British deserve more suspicion than that.”

Videomaker Skip Blumberg tapes a WAC gathering at Carpenter and Huron in the West Loop where participants with homemade instruments play in a drum circle, and also interviews many of them about their beliefs and their cause.
