In December 1989, the United States Navy was preparing to launch a Trident Two Missile off the coast of Florida. Greenpeace set out to block the test with an 800-ton boat and video camera. The Navy claimed it had a right to protect itself under international law, and proceeded to ram the Greenpeace boat, leaving a 3-foot gash in its side. After two hours, the trident missile was successfully launched.
